How To Find Your Perfect Sunglasses Fit
Looking for sunglasses that feel as good as they look? Forget the guesswork. Follow these steps and and find the sunglasses that sit just right (and look seriously good doing it).
1. Use our virtual try-on feature
Our virtual try-on tool lets you see how each pair looks on your face in real time. Try as many styles as you like until you find the one that feels just right, all from the comfort of home.
For best results:
- Use good lighting so the frames look true to life.
- Hold your phone at eye level so the proportions are accurate.
- Keep the phone at arm’s length for the most natural view.
- Allow 10 - 20 seconds for the frames to load, good things are worth the wait.
- Try a few different styles and compare side by side.
2. The credit card trick
Think of this as the quickest way to find your fit, no measurements needed. A credit card is roughly the same width as a standard medium frame lens, so it’s the perfect tool to figure out whether you suit a narrow, regular, or wide fit.
Here’s how to try it:
- Stand in front of a mirror.
- Hold a credit card vertically against the bridge of your nose.
- Ends right at the corner of your eye? You’re a regular fit (our most popular size).
- Goes past your eye? Try a narrow fit.
-
Falls short? You’re a wide fit.
3. Check the frames you already love
If you already own a pair that feels just right, use it as your guide. Look inside the temple arm (the part that rests over your ear). You’ll see three numbers, usually separated by spaces or a small square symbol, like this: 53-19 145.
Here is what they mean:
- Lens width (53 mm): how wide each lens is.
- Nose bridge or bridge width (19 mm): space between the lenses.
- Temple length (145 mm): how long the arms are.
When you match these numbers with a new style, you’re more likely to get the same comfortable fit you already know and love.
4. Compare frame measurements
Another easy way to find the right fit is to check the frame width of the styles you’re looking at. Frame width is the total distance across the front of the sunglasses, and it’s one of the best indicators of how the frames will feel on your face. You’ll find the frame width listed under "Product Details" on every Le Specs product page.
Use this guide to choose your best fit:
- Narrow fit: 139 mm or less
- Regular fit: 140 mm - 146 mm
- Wide fit: 147 mm or more
Choosing a width in your range helps ensure your sunglasses feel balanced and comfortable, not too tight, not too loose.
5. Compare with model imagery
Every Le Specs product page shows the sunglasses on a model so you can see how they look when worn. Use this to get a sense of scale and proportion before you buy.
Here’s how:
- Look at the model’s face shape. Is it more round, oval or angular compared to yours? This will help you picture how the frame might look on you.
- Check how wide the frame looks on the model’s face. If the glasses look oversized on them and your face is narrower, they’ll look even bolder on you.
- Notice where the arms sit. This can tell you if a frame is likely to feel snug or more relaxed on your face.
- Compare proportions to your own mirror selfie. This is an easy way to visualize whether the style will balance your features.
This method is perfect if you love seeing the frames “in action” before committing.
